How will I fill the free weekday mornings and evenings this summer when classes, choirs and ministry groups are not meeting? It will feel different, won’t it? Perhaps the Holy Spirit that comes at Pentecost like wind, fire and dove calls us to change our forms too. Perhaps the schedules that fill every moment of September through May ease during the summer so that we may see God’s face in all creation, feel rest and renewal in Jesus’ arms, and hear the whisper of the Spirit. Summer is a perfect time to read a book of the Bible in your hammock, teach your children a new table grace, share your faith with that neighbor down the street, sit next to a new person in worship on Sunday. And if you can’t resist stopping by the church, the staff will be here, planning for summer Sundays and Fall worship, programs and activities -- and we’d love to see you! “And all of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began ... ” Acts 2:4

Am I the member that has worshipped at Holy Trinity the longest? Almost. Our records show that Jeanne Ward joined on 01/06/52; Ellen Johnson on 11/02/52; Rosemary Imburgia on 5/31/53; Herb Strum on 10/04/53, and Chuck Carlson on 11/23/53. Thanks be to God for you saints who have spent your lifetimes worshipping and serving God at HTLC -- and thanks be to God for you who joined this year, and for all of you in between. What a full and faithful congregation. “Speaking the truth in love, we grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.” Ephesians 4:15

What’s that black thing you have on Sunday morning? It’s a recorder. Donated by Barb Hiller, it is used to record Sunday sermons which she then uploads to the website. Some listen if they can’t get to church on Sunday morning; some who have heard the sermon listen again during the week. “So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17

What footprint do you want to leave behind, Pastor? A light one, right next to your footprint, and yours, and yours ... For who we are and who we become, what we do now and in the future, is up to all of us together and the Holy Spirit, isn’t it?! I do hope that we continue being a joyously welcoming congregation. That’s easier said than done, and many visitors report you’re doing it beautifully. I hope that we will also spread that joyous welcome of Christ beyond our walls, out into the community, sharing the good news through our words and work. What exactly will that look like? The Holy Spirit is presenting choices every day! Be sure to speak up when you hear something you’re excited about. The Executive Committee meets every month for the sole purpose of guiding us into the future, as does the Council; and the Council will go on retreat June 12 for deeper discernment and planning. God never goes on vacation, and Jesus says, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses ... to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Great questions for Pentecost, a time of greening and growth! Keep them coming. See you in church,

Pastor Robin
